Our Criteria

We do not rule out investment in start-up businesses, but prefer those with a track record.

We prefer established profitability - or prospective profitability in the year of investment - but do not exclude "turn-around" or "rescue" situations.

Companies in which we invest should be ambitious and have good growth prospects.

The quality and experience of management is a key consideration for us. They must be committed to the realisation of their business plan and have the ability to make it happen. We look for a management "team" who can take responsibility for all aspects of running a successful business from strategic vision and technical ability on the one hand to operations, finance, sales and marketing on the other. Direct experience of the company's products and markets is vital.

Is venture capital appropriate for my business ?

Before looking for venture capital, you must be able to give positive answers to the following questions:-

- Am I prepared to turn this growth potential into reality by raising finance on terms that may reduce my share of the equity in the business ?

- Am I able to demonstrate to potential investors that my business has a unique selling point or commercial edge that distinguishes its product and / or service from that of my competitors ?

- Does my business have the potential to achieve significant turnover and profits growth over the next three to five years ?

- Can I demonstrate exactly why capital is being sought and what it will be used for ?

- Can I help the investor achieve a satisfactory return on their investment ?

- Can I propose an exit route (which may involve selling the company or buying back the shares) ?

- Am I prepared to accept input, possibly in the form of a non-executive director, into the management of my company ?
